01. Xi calls for renewed friendship with Indonesia
Apr. 14, 2020 (China Daily) — President Xi Jinping called on April 13rd for solidarity between China and Indonesia to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and enrich the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership as the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. China and Indonesia share broad common interests at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, and the potential for bilateral cooperation remains huge. They have kept elevating their relations, expanding areas of cooperation and jointly building the Belt and Road with rich outcomes.
02. China, Vietnam should enhance cooperation with regional countries to curb COVID-19
Apr. 2, 2020 (Xinhua) — China and Vietnam should strengthen cooperation with regional countries to curb the spread of COVID-19, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said in a phone conversation with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on April 1. China and Vietnam are important neighbors to each other and should work together, keep close coordination, strengthen cooperation and experience-sharing on epidemic prevention and control, so as to jointly curb the COVID-19 spread, stabilize the industrial chain and supply chain, and maintain regional economic development.
03. China to launch a communication satellite for Indonesia
Apr. 1, 2020 (Xinhua) — China is preparing to launch a communication satellite, Palapa-N1, for Indonesia at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Chinas Sichuan Province. Palapa-N1 was built on an enhanced Dongfanghong-4 communication satellite platform by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), and will be launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology. The satellite will provide communication and broadcasting services to Indonesia and other countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
04. Manila hails arrival of Chinese experts to help battle the outbreak
Apr. 7, 2020 (China Daily) — The Philippines has welcomed the arrival of a Chinese medical team to help the country counter rising rates of coronavirus infections. The Philippine Department of Health said the country had 3,660 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of April 1 — the second most in Southeast Asia. Twelve Chinese medical experts arrived in Manila on April 5 to help their Philippine counterparts manage the outbreak. The team brought 5,000 units of personal protective equipment, 300,000 surgical masks, 30,000 medical N95 masks, 5,000 medical protective face shields and 30 noninvasive ventilators that were donated by the Chinese government.
05. Tracks for China-Laos railway being laid
Apr. 7, 2020 (China Daily) — The work of laying tracks for a railway linking Southwest Chinas Yunnan province with Vientiane in Laos started in Yunnan on April 7, preparing for the whole lines operation at the end of next year. The railways section in China starts at Yuxi city in Yunnan and runs to Mohan, on the border with Laos, while the part in Laos begins from Boten to Laos capital, Vientiane. The China-Laos Railway is a strategic docking project between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Laos strategy to develop from a landlocked country to a land-linked hub.
06. Medical teams set out from Yunnan for Myanmar
Apr. 9, 2020 (China Daily) — Twelve medical experts left Kunming, Yunnan province for Yangon, Myanmar on April 8, at the invitation of the Myanmar government to help fight COVID-19 there. The experts, selected from Yunnan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University and Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine specialize in the fields of respiration, infection, critical cases, nursing, clinical laboratory and traditional Chinese medicine. The medical team is bringing RMB 4.34 million yuan (US$ 614,565) worth of medical materials with them to Myanmar.
07. Shenzhen Stock Exchange partners with Malaysian bourse
Apr. 16, 2020 (China Daily) — Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Bursa Malaysia, the Malaysian stock exchange, signed a memorandum of understanding through video conference on April 15, marking a new page of cooperation between the two exchanges. According to the MoU, the two parties will share information and resources via the V-Next, an internet-based financial information service platform established by the SZSE and which has attracted more than 12,000 innovative high-tech firms from over 41 countries. They also pledged to promote China-Malaysia industrial chain collaboration and develop a cross-border financing matchmaking mechanism in the two countries.
08. Brunei receives medical donations from Chinas Guangxi
Apr. 16, 2020 (Xinhua) — Brunei received medical donations from Chinas Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Yu Hong, the Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, transferred the medical supplies to Brunei's Minister at the Prime Ministers Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah on April 15. The minister thanked the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chinas central government for the medical cooperation and donations to Brunei and expressed the willingness to strengthen cooperation with Guangxi and continuously promote the cooperation in the building of the economic corridor.
