The guest editors of this special issue are

XU Chong,a research professor at Institute of Crustal Dynamics,China Earthquake Administration.He got his Ph.D.at Institute of Geology and Geophysics,Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2010.His research interests include earthquake-triggered landslides,rainfall-induced landslides,and geological hazards using GIS,remote sensing,and statistical analysis techniques.By virtue of the study of earthquake-triggered landslides over 10 years,he has obtained a series of scientific research achievements of this subject,including database construction and criteria of earthquake-triggered landslides,quantitative description of landslide distribution,addressing issues of earthquake geology,landslide volume modeling,and hazard assessment.He chaired three NSFC projects(Youth,General,and International Joint Research)and two sub-projects of National Key R&D Program of China.He has published more than 200 papers with about 6000 citations.His research achievements,mainly on landslides triggered by recent large earthquakes,have been extended to about 50 research institutes and universities worldwide and are adopted directly by more than 100 research teams,significantly elevating the international status of China in the international community of seismic landslide research.He won several awards,such as“the Outstanding Young Scientist Award”in 2019 from ICGDR and“the 15th Youth Geological Science and Technology Award:Silver Hammer Award”in 2015 from Geological Society of China.His current work focuses on earthquake-triggered landslides on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and the Loess Plateau,fault mechanisms,real probability models,risk assessments and zonation of earthquake-triggered landslides.

JIANG Yuanjunobtained his Ph.D.from the University of Tokyo and now is woking in the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment,Chinese Academy of Sciences.He has a wide range of research interests in the field of mountain hazards mitigation.His research topics cover the primary segments of hazards mitigation chain in terms of landslide initiation,early warning of landslide,avalanche/granular flow dynamics,engineering countermeasure of granular flow impact and so on.He also has the study of constitutive model of soilroot matrix,and also the solid-fluid transition model for a granualr material.He believes in that the combination of theory,experiment and numerical analysis in a study could help us have a comprehensive understanding of scientific question.

LIU Chun,born in 1984.In 2012,he got his PhD degree from Nanjing University.After the postdoctoral research at Stanford University,he joined Nanjing University as an associate professor.He has been engaged in the research of computational engineering geology,especially in the theoretical research and system development of the discrete element method,the multi field coupling of rock and soil mass,and the applications in engineering geology.He presided over and participated in 9 NSFC projects,and has more than 60 papers published in peer-reviewed journals(700 citations),3 of them published in JGR-Solid Earth.Since 2011,he developed the high-performance discrete element software MatDEM from scratch,and gradually promoted it to engineering applications.He was selected into the 2nd Young Elite Scientist Sponsorship Program by CAST.

LU Heng,born in 1984,a doctorate of geodesy and survey engineering in Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering,Southwest Jiaotong University.Working as a teacher in College of Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Engineering,Sichuan University,dedicated to education and R&D in fields like the application of 3S technology in disaster prevention and mitigation,agricultural remote sensing,etc.Leading and in charge of more than 20 scientific research projects of various fields,including 2 projects in the National Key R&D Program of China,2 projects in the National Science and Technology Support Program of China,3 projects in the National Natural Science Foundation of China.More than 40 papers published,with more than 10 included in SCI and EI.Reviewer of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters,Journal of Mountain Science,Transactions of The Chinese Society of Agricultural Machinery and other periodicals at home and abroad.Coediting 1 textbook and 2 monographs.
