The moon’s apparent size in the sky is almost the same as that of the sun, since the distance between the sun and the earth is about 400 times the lunar's. This matching of apparent visual size will not continue in the far future because the moon’s distance from the earth is gradually increasing.

月球本身并不发光，它在夜空异常明亮的原因是它反射太阳光。而且满月要比上、下弦月亮十多倍。

月球到地球的距离大约相当于地球到太阳距离的1/400，所以从地球上看月亮和太阳一样大。但由于地月之间的距离正在逐渐增大，所以在遥远的将来，这种视觉效果也会发生改变。
