China and Malaysia share deep-rooted traditional friendship, sound political trust, and close economic and cultural ties. In 1974, Malaysia became the first ASEAN country to establish diplomatic relations with China, marking a new chapter in the history of the friendly relations between the two countries.

Over the past 45 years, bilateral relations between the two countries have grown with vigor and vitality, evidenced by closer friendship and fruitful achievements in bilateral cooperation in various fields including trade, education, culture and sports. China has remained the largest trading partner of Malaysia for 10 consecutive years and the largest source of inbound tourists to Malaysia for six consecutive years, while the number of students studying in each others countries has continued soaring, laying a solid foundation for steady and long-term development of bilateral relations. Today, as their relationship enters a new phase of development, China and Malaysia, both powerhouses of Asias rise and important reciprocal partners in terms of development opportunities, will continue working together to promote the rejuvenation of Asia and the progress and prosperity of mankind.
