Exhibition Tour on Napoleon Bonaparte Debuts in Kunming

A nationwide exhibition on Napoleon Bonaparte made its debut on March 14 in southwest Chinas Yunnan Province.

More than 150 items on display include some personal articles that Napoleon Bonaparte used during his lifetime， like clothing， and items of daily use from his era， as well as oil paintings， sculptures， and woodcuts of famous artists. The exhibition depicts the ups and downs of Napoleons life.

“Such an exhibition on French art and culture will help enhance communication and friendship between the two peoples，” said Ma Wendou， curator of the Yunnan Provincial Museum.

The first stop of the exhibition tour in the provincial capital of Kunming will last till June 9. The exhibition is scheduled to move to other parts of the country， including the provinces of Guizhou， Shanxi， and Henan.

15th Chinese Bridge Cup Contest Held in San Francisco

More than 1，000 students from Northern California convened on March 9 for an annual contest on Chinese language and culture that aimed to build a bridge of understanding between the Chinese and American people.

The 15th Chinese Bridge Cup Contest， jointly hosted by the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University （SFSU） and San Francisco Unified School District（SFUSD）， offered an opportunity for children from kindergarten to 12th graders to show off their talents in Chinese language and culture， including calligraphy， poem recital， and painting.

The two-day event， from March 9 through 10， attracted kids who exhibited strong interest in Chinese culture and heritage. Xie Jiaxin， director of the Confucius Institute at SFSU， said this year the event has won greater support from the leaders of both the SFSU and SFUSD， and some of them even offered in person to help their students register for the contest or volunteer for the contest.

“A bridge of language and culture connects American studentslove for and interest in Chinas language and culture， which will lay a solid linguistic foundation for their future careers，” Xie said.

Chinese Film Week Rolls out in Sydney

A Chinese Film Week kicked off in Sydney on the night of February 27， bringing to Aussies the best of recent Chinese cinema spanning action， drama， romance， and more.

The free event which ended on March 3 was located at Event Cinemas in the heart of the city， and is an initiative of Sydneys China Cultural Center（CCCS）.

Oscar nominated director， Lü Yues 2018 drama， Lost， Found was shown at the opening of the festival， following an address by attending dignitaries.

“The free Chinese Film Week program has been curated to offer Sydney audiences a rare chance to enjoy the most exciting Chinese cinema from the past few years，” CCCS director Chen Shuang said.

“The initiative aims to connect with lovers of the arts， whilst tightening bonds and experiences between international audiences and broadening the appeal of Chinese cinema.”

In the lineup of films is last years mindbender of a cross-cultural production， Animal World which stars Hollywood legend Michael Douglas， while on the lighter side are comedies Hello Billionaire and Detective Chinatown 2， as well as 2015s heartfelt Manga adaption Go Away Mr. Tumor.

Those looking for something grittier can enjoy historical epic Brotherhood of Blades or for crime lovers， The Wasted Times delves into complex underworld dealings and stars a famous face many Aussies may recognize， Memoirs of a Geisha star and Golden Globe nominee， Zhang Ziyi.
