Wu Danhua(28)
Abstract:By referring to the narrative structure of the national unification, the local chronicles of the new county expresses the"political identification"of the local government under the sovereignty of the central government, and in this way determine the position of the local county in the unified national territory and the political system of the Ming Dynasty. The depictions of the jurisdiction of the new county as well as the cultural figures and places are a kind ofmetaphor, implying the new county’s independency in terms of political power, history and culture and other aspects, aswell as the recognition of its equal status to the old county. In addition, the establishment of the new county results in a time coordinate that links the history before and after the establishment of the new county, and a complete time series for writing local history, finally breeding a narrative framework for the local history and being deeply ingrained in the socialmemory of the people.Only so can the newly established administrative region become a real existence, and the national order represented by the administrative region can be truly integrated into the local society.
