In the afternoon of September 20th, 2018, the parallel forum “Sustainability ? New Formats” Forum of 2018 World Textile Merchandising Conference was held in Keqiao, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. 200 representatives from the global textile supply chain participated in the forum.

This forum aimed at establishing an international exchange platform. Themed by sustainable development and taking joint discussion, coconstruction and sharing as principles, it gathered main interested parties of the global textile industry chain to exchange ideas over innovation and practice of green development of the global textile industry chain so as to promote fusion of the Chinese textile industry and global supply chain and boost sustainable development of the global textile industry chain.

Ma Yanjun, Deputy District Head of Keqiao, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province and Yan Yan, Director of Office for Social Responsibility, China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) respectively gave speeches over sustainable development of the Keqiao textile industry and sustainable practice of the Chinese textile industry.

Afterwards, witnessed by the conference representatives, Ma Yanjun and Yan Yan inaugurated “Sustainability Stewardship Pilot Zone” for Keqiao. CNTAC and Keqiao District, Shaoxing will carry out co-construction work of the Sustainability Stewardship Pilot Zone. Before 2020, they will promote textile enterprises in the zone under the administration to participate in pilot sustainable innovation projects and carry out green chemistry management and innovative management of climatic change and carbon emission reduction & water risks and water recycling so as to create a high-end textile manufacturing zone in Keqiao. This marks that public governance of sustainable development in Keqiao, Shaoxing enters a new phase to further boost sustainable development of the regional textile industry and elevate competitiveness of the Keqiao textile industry in the global supply chain and fashion industry.

For “Sustainable Trading and Transparency”, experts from purchasers, suppliers, industrial organizations and third-party certification bodies in the global textile supply chain shared innovative practices of green supply chain and information disclosure from different perspectives, including significance of information disclosure, usable tools, establishment of the sustainable supply chain, traceability of sustainable products, etc.

For “Sustainable Innovation”, experts from international brands, fashion field and local dyeing and printing associations in Keqiao shared their ideas from the perspective of innovative development, including sustainable innovation of brand suppliers, innovation of green design and innovation of environmental governance, etc.

Finally, for “Stakeholder Engagement”, representatives from Amfori Greater China, HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited, World Wild Fund for Nature, and Japan Textile Federation discussed innovation of multi-party participation in the sustainable textile management through their organizations experience in participating in sustainable development under different roles.
