First China Film Week in Dubai to Strengthen Cultural Exchanges
The first China Film Week in Dubai saw releases of scores of Chinese films for the first time in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The film week kicked off on the evening of October 1 with a gala red carpet reception.
Organizers expressed the hope that through holding of the film week, economic, and cultural exchanges between the two countries will be strengthened.
Renowned Chinese film and television actors including Li Xiaolu, Hu Bing, and Lin Yongjian walked down the red carpet.
Chinese films shown during the film week included The Heavenly Lion, Broken Wind, Return to 20, Night, Chinese Partner and so on.
Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Chairman of the Executive Committee of “Halla China” (Halla is the Arabic slang for hello), said that the film week will build mutual cooperation between filmmakers and production companies in the UAE and China.
“Halla China” is an initiative jointly launched by Dubai Meraas Group and Dubai Holding Group.
The program will launch projects and activities covering trade, investment, culture, tourism, and other fields, aiming to respond to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Li Lingbing, Chinas Consul General to Dubai, said in his speech that the film week will showcase Chinese films that reflect Chinas profound history, splendid culture, and modern development.
China-ASEAN Photo Exhibition Marking 15th Anniversary of Strategic Partnership
A photo exhibition kicked off on September 27 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, highlighting the colorful narrative of dynamic and harmonious relations between the two sides. The event, held in AlAzhar University in downtown Jakarta, was jointly launched by the Chinese Mission to ASEAN and the Singapore Permanent Mission to ASEAN. The exhibition featured beautiful scenes of ASEAN and China as well as their close friendship. Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Huang Xilian said “harmonious coexistence” is the essence of Asian culture, and it is also a vivid portrayal of China-ASEAN relations. China has always regarded “mutual respect and mutual assistance” and “harmonious cooperation” as the way to get along with ASEAN.
He hoped more young students could go to China to experience its history and development.
Singapores Permanent Representative to ASEAN Tan Hung Seng said ASEAN and China have always attached great importance to building a harmonious relationship and mutually beneficial partnership.
The two sides have deepened cooperation in both traditional and emerging areas in recent years, he added.
“We have also promoted greater people-to-people links through educational exchanges and tourism,” Tan said.
“Confucius Prize”Awarded to Iranian, Nigerian, and Spanish Programs
Three educational programs for children and adults, prisoners, and adult immigrants have won this years UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy in Qufu, east Chinas Shandong Province on September 27.
The programs came from Iran, Nigeria, and Spain, according to Robert Parua, Program Specialist for Education, UNESCO Beijing Office.
The program by Literacy Movement Organization in Iran promotes literacy and continuing education for children and adults, particularly women and girls in rural areas.
The program by Nigerian Prisons Service equips prisoners with skills and professions that can make them employable or selfemployed upon release, encouraging them to become crime-free citizens.
The third program by Foundation Elche Acoge in Spain started in 1994. Its goal of “Spanish as a second language for adult immigrants” is to implement an educational program which allows immigrants to integrate into society and the labor market.
The Confucius Prize for Literacy was established in 2005 to recognize the efforts of individuals, governments, and NGOs in raising the literacy rate.
