Heilongjiang Province is located in Chinas northeast， at its highest latitude. Apart from its cold and long winter， it is also well known for its fertile black soil， making it one of the most crucial grain-producing areas in the country.

From September to October every year， the province gradually begins the autumn harvest from south to north. Corn， rice and soybeans are the major crops harvested.
