TV Documentary Documents Chinas Medical Assistance to Africa

Border for Doctors, a fourepisode TV documentary depicting Chinas medical assistance to Africa, has been hailed as an excellent piece showcasing China-Africa cooperation and friendship.

Through a panoramic view, the documentary tells stories of Chinas medical workers, facing life-threatening diseases and epidemics, saving numerous lives in Africa over the course of more than half a century.

The documentary, filmed by CCTV-4 Chinese international channel, has been watched 80 million times, according to channel director-general Li Xinyan.

What touches the audience most is the humanity embodied by the medical workers, said Zhang Tongdao, documentary center director at Beijing Normal University.

A quality documentary always makes the audience remember several figures and stories, said He Suliu, a professor with the Communication University of China. Border for Doctors reflects the international humanitarian spirit. It is a good carrier to shape Chinas image as well as spread the culture and values of China.”

Through several stories, the documentary conveys Chinas ambition to build a community with a shared future for mankind, said Jiang Jianguo, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

“Feel China” Kicks off in Mongolias Capital

“Feel China,” a culture and tourism promotion event that aims to strengthen cultural ties between Mongolia and China, kicked off at the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery in Ulan Bator on September 5.

Hundreds of people from various fields of both countries, including the Mongolian Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Sports Tsedenbal Tsogzolmaa and Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia Xing Haiming attended the opening ceremony.

In recent years, the traditionally friendly relations between our two countries have been enriched in various sectors,” Tsogzolmaa said at the ceremony, adding that the event shows that relations between the two countries are growing stronger.

“China and Mongolia are good neighbors and good partners. During the state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Mongolia in 2014, our two countries upgraded their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership,” Xing said.

Since then, relations and cooperation between the two countries have been developing rapidly in a wide range of areas, he said.

Xing believes that the “Feel China” event will help strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

During the event, a number of activities were held, including cultural performances and tourism promotions.

China Publishes Reproduction of Ancient Tibetan Literature

On September 6, China saw the publishing of a selected edition of the Phuri Manuscripts, the oldest and largest collection of ancient Tibetan literature discovered in the country.

The Phuri Manuscripts are a collection of ancient and rare Tibetan literature that was found in Phuri Village in the city of Xigaze in 2002.

The manuscripts consist of around 12,000 pages of Tibetan classics and documents, such as religious literature, poetry, and biographies. They reflect the natural landscape, folk traditions, and customs of the region.

They were created before the 14th century, according to paper tests and expert analysis, and were housed by the library of Tibet University in 2007.

“This publication offers a unique contribution not only to the field of Tibetan studies but also to Buddhist studies and Asian studies more generally,”Hildegard Diemberger, general secretary of the International Association for Tibetan Studies, said in a letter.

Researchers from Tibet University have repaired, cataloged, and digitalized these ancient Tibetan manuscripts, according to Sherab Sangpo, a researcher with the universitys Tibetan Ancient Books Research Institute. He was also among those who discovered the manuscripts.
