Dragon Boat Festival is on the fifth day of the fifth lunar(阴历的) month every year. It is one of the most important traditional(传统的) festivals in China.
There are many different legends(传说) about the festival,but the most famous one is about Qu Yuan,a patriotic(爱国的) poet(诗人) in ancient(古代的) China.
Zongzi is a kind of food made with sticky rice(糯米) and is wrapped(包裹) with reed(芦苇) or bamboo(竹) leaves. It has different shapes(形状) and fillings(馅料). In the northern part of China,people use red jujube(枣) as fillings. In the southern part of China,people use beans(豆子),fresh meat(鲜肉) or egg yolk(蛋黄) as fillings.
Dragon boats look like Chinese dragons(龙). A team(队) of people row(划) a dragon boat together(一起). At the front of the boat,one team member(队员) beats(敲打) a drum(鼓) to encourage(鼓励) his teammates(队友). It is said that the winning(獲胜的) team will bring luck and happiness to the people of their village.
During the holiday,children will wear colorful silk threads(丝线) on their wrists(手腕) or ankles(脚踝). It is said that colorful silk threads can drive away(赶走) evil spirits(恶魔) and protect(保护) children from diseases(疾病).
