This year marks 60 years of diplomatic ties between China and Cambodia. The people of the two countries have shared good times and bad and are now looking at a better tomorrow in the new era. Present relations between China and Cambodia have reached an unprecedented height, which is the result of the painstaking efforts of the leaders and people of the two countries. Senior leaders of both countries have exchanged frequent visits like relatives, which has charted a course for the development of bilateral relations. The synergy between Chinas “Belt and Road Initiative” and Cambodias “Rectangular Strategy” has effectively promoted the mutually beneficial cooperation and enhanced the well-being of the people of both countries. Many people have affectionately referred to each other as “fervent friends,” implying the tenacity of relations and the unbreakable friendship between the two countries.
For a long time, both China and Cambodia have played an important role in building the China-ASEAN community of shared future, which has set a pristine example of a new type of international relations. In Cambodia today, numerous hallmarks of Sino-Cambodian friendship such as the bridges across the Mekong River, Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, the upgraded road from Phnom Penh to the Siem Reap-Angkor region and Kamchay Hydropower Dam in Kampot funded by SINOHYDRO Corporation testify to the power of the relationship.
The success of Sino-Cambodian cooperation should be attributed not only to the traditional friendship between China and Cambodia, but also to their highly compatible political consensus, common aspiration for economic development and complementary comparative advantages.
