A Graphene Industrial Cluster Takes Shape in Heilongjiang
Recently, China-Russia Expo Graphene Application Summit Forum was held in Harbin, attracting more than 100 senior experts, scholars, academic leaders and core business leaders from China’s graphite-based new material fields. According to the prediction of participating experts, China’s grapheme sales will reach 10 billion yuan by 2018, the global annual production capacity of graphene will top 1,000 tons in the next 5~10 years, and the global grapheme scale will be 100 billion yuan by 2020.
At the conference, Hu Yafeng, Vice Governor of Heilongjiang Province introduced the development of graphite and graphene industry in Heilongjiang.
Seen from resource reserves, Heilongjiang is the province with the largest reserves in China and even the whole world. Its available reserves of crystalline graphite are 116 million tons, accounting for about 2/3 of China’s total and 1/3 of the world’s total, showing obvious resource advantages. From the perspective of industrial base, Heilongjiang has a total of over 80 graphite and graphene production enterprises, with an annual refined graphite powder production capacity of more than 800,000 tons, accounting for over 60% of China’s total. Two graphite parks in Jixi and Hegang have begun to taken shape, showing initial industrial cluster and agglomeration effect. The level of graphene transformation and processing keeps increasing. In the field of grapheme, enterprises represented by Harbin Wanxin Graphite Valley Technology Co., Ltd., Heilongjiang Huasheng Graphite Co., Ltd. and Baotailong New Materials Co., Ltd. have developed rapidly. The expansion from the production of graphene powder upstream raw materials to downstream application products such as graphene conductive pulp and anti-corrosion coatings has been continued.
From the view of R&D capabilities, Heilongjiang owns one national-level technological innovation alliance, two graphite product quality testing centers, one provincial-level innovation service platform, and six provincial-level engineering and technology research centers. Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Engineering University and other three universities mainly research graphene green preparation, large-area graphene film, wave absorption by grapheme, heat dissipation by grapheme, graphene electrode, etc., with three world-leading technologies and four technologies with industrialization level. From the perspective of development and leadership, Heilongjiang has compiled Special Plan for the Scientific and Technological Development of the Graphite Industry (2012-2020), Development Planning for the Graphite Industry of Heilongjiang Province during the “13th Five-Year Plan” Period and Three-year Special Action Plan for the Graphene Industry of Heilongjiang Province. During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, Heilongjiang will make efforts to build “one center and two bases”, i.e. Harbin graphite-based new materials R&D and high-end products manufacturing and trading center, and two graphite production and processing bases in Hegang and Jixi, with the goal of building the province into a national key industrial cluster area integrating graphite mining, scientific R&D and graphite-based new materials manufacturing, and a graphite and graphite-based new materials industry leader in China and even the whole world.
Li Yichun, Secretary-General of China Graphene Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance believes that China has also made great achievements in product transformation of grapheme, especially the graphene industrial cluster formed in Heilongjiang has laid a good foundation for China’s grapheme industry.
