Qinghai’s 100 Billion Yuan Lithium Industry Construction Enters a New Stage

As one of the important projects for the development of lithium industry and the construction of the 100 billion yuan lithium industry base in Qinghai Province, BYD lithium industry project has started construction in Xining, Haidong and Haixi. The starting of equipment commissioning, plant construction and making technology reach the standard indicates that Qinghai’s 100 billion yuan lithium industry construction has entered a new stage of vigorous development.

According to the Provincial Commission of Economy and Informatization, since Qinghai signed the Cooperation Framework Agreement with BYD Co., Ltd., the province has focused on the development of lithium industry and the 100 billion yuan lithium industry base, and included three projects - 10 GWh/a power battery, 20,000 t/a lithium iron phosphate, and 30,000 t/a lithium carbonate - into the “Golden Season Battle” key tracking project. It has organized relevant regions, departments and industrial parks to hold special promotion and coordination meetings, urged them to accelerate equity adjustment, technical preparation, guarantee of factors, fulfillment of supporting conditions, etc., and fully supported the acceleration of project construction.

One of the projects is the 10 GWh/a power lithium battery production project in Nanchuan Industrial Park with a total investment of 4 billion yuan. So far, industrial and commercial registration, land application, site leveling, feasibility study and EIA, seven connections and one leveling, process layout and drawing design for the project have been completed. The project is now in the foundation and plant construction stage, and the overall progress is smooth. It is expected to complete equipment installation and commissioning and put the project into full operation in June 2018. Another project is the 20,000 t/a lithium iron phosphate construction project in Haidong with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan. The preliminary work has been completed, and the project is now in the foundation and plant construction stage. The overall progress is smooth, and the plant construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The last project is the 30,000 t/a lithium carbonate project in Haixi with a planned investment of 3 billion yuan. Currently, the process validation results of the new-type adsorbent developed by BYD are good, and joint venture shareholders are making technical preparations. The construction of the project is planned to be started in September.
