Is it really important to master[掌握]a foreign language, if you want to travel abroad? Well, for me, the answer is yes, and no.
Of course, if you can speak good English, for example, it can bring you a lot of conveniences. When I travelled in Florence two years ago, I stayed in a Youth Hostel[青年旅社], which provided not only free breakfast every morning, but also a free English tour guide. Besides, you can also make some friends during the trip, since you are living with young people from all over the world in the Youth Hostel.
However, when I was in Rome, I shared a room with five other girls, who came from Japan and South Korea. Those girls were kind and easy-going[随和的], yet the only problem was that they could not speak much English, or whatever foreign language to them. It was not easy to communicate with them, I have to admit it. However, it didn’t affect their mood[情绪]to enjoy the beauty of the Eternal City. Every evening, when we came back to the hostel, we could even manage to share our experience just by some simple words, combining lots of hand gestures.
So, here is the conclusion[结论]: It will be really helpful if you can speak a foreign language when you travel abroad; if not, it’s still OK. Don’t worry about it, just go, see the world, enjoy the trip, ’cause if the world won’t come to you, then you must go to the world.
