An eightyearold child heard her parents talking about her little brother.All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money.Only a very expensive operation could save him now and there was no one to lend them the money.

一个八岁的孩子听到父母在谈论她的弟弟。她只知道他病得很重，他们没有钱。现在只有一台很昂贵的手术才能救他，但是没有一个人愿意借钱给他们。

When she heard her daddy say to her tearful mother,“Only a miracle can save him now,”the little girl went to her bedroom and pulled her money from its hiding place and counted it carefully.She hurried to adrugstore2with the money in her hand.

她听到爸爸对满含泪水的妈妈说：“现在只有奇迹才能救他了。”小女孩走进了她的卧室，把她的钱从藏钱的地方拿出来，仔细地数，然后匆匆忙忙地去了一家药店。

“And what do you want?”asked the salesman. “It’s for my little brother,”the girl answered.“He’s really,really sick and I want to buy a miracle.”“Pardon?”said the salesman.

“你想要什么？”售货员问。“是给我弟弟买的。”女孩回答道，“他真的病得很重。我想买一个奇迹。”“什么？”售货员说。

“My brother Andrew has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says only a miracle can save him.So how much does a miracle cost?”“We don’t sell a miracle here,child.I’m sorry.”the salesman said with a smile.

“我的弟弟安德鲁，他的脑袋里长着一个坏东西，我爸爸说，现在只有奇迹可以救他。那么奇迹卖多少钱？”“我们这里不卖奇迹，孩子。对不起。”售货员面带微笑地说。

“Listen,if it isn’t enough,I can try and get some more.Just tell me how much it costs.”

“听着，如果这还不够的话，我可以努力挣更多的钱。你只要告诉我多少钱。”

A welldressed man heard this and asked,“What kinds of miracle does your brother need?”

一个穿着讲究的人听见了，问道，“你弟弟需要什么样的奇迹呢？”

“I don’t know,”she answered with her eyes full of tears.“He’s really sick and Mum says he needs an operation,but my daddy can’t pay for it.So I have brought all my money.”

“我不知道，”她回答着，眼里满是泪水。“他真的病了，妈妈说他需要做手术，但是我爸爸没钱付,所以我带来了我所有的钱。”

“How much do you have?”asked the man.”$1.11,but I can try and get some more.”she answered.

“你有多少钱？”男人问道。“1.11美元，但我可以试着挣更多。”她回答说。

“Well,what luck,”smiled the man.“$1.11,the price of a miracle for your little brother.”

“嗯，你真幸运，”他笑着说。“1.11美元——你的弟弟的奇迹的价格。”

He took up the girl’s hand and said,“Take me to where you live.I want to see your brother and meet your parents.Let’s see if I have the kind of miracle you need.”

他牵起女孩的手说：“带我到你住的地方。我想看看你的弟弟并和你的父母见个面。让我们看看，我是否有你所需要的奇迹。”

That well dressed man was Dr.Carlton Armstrong,a famous doctor.The operation was successful and it wasn’t long before Andrew was home again.

这个穿着讲究的男人就是卡尔顿·阿姆斯特朗博士，他是一位著名的医生。手术非常成功，没过多久安德鲁就回家了。
