To tackle the global challenge of climate change, SEG (Sinopec Engineering Group), as an integrated engineering service provider and technology licensor, has constantly sought to enhance its development model through technology innovation, so as to provide a series of services for green development in the overseas oil refning and chemical engineering market, such as energy structure optimization, development and utilization of low-carbon energy and energy conservation.

Since 2005, the Sinopec Engineering Group (SEG) has contracted 84 overseas projects involving consultations, design,construction and general contracting,valued at $12.85 billion in total.

For Sustainable Development

Over the years, SEG has striven to improve its technology in utilizing clean energy like CH4,focusing on packaged technology for liquefed natural gas (LNG) terminal. SEG has so far gained much experience in designing and constructing low-temperature liquid storage tanks, and has the capacity to provide coordinated services including technology, design,construction and PMC management for LNG terminals.

With regard to biomass energy, SEG has participated in the R&D of biodiesel packaged technology with some success, and will start designing for foundation engineering in the near future. On the other hand, remarkable progress has been made in the R&D of SRCAII processing technology of the Zhenjiang 100,000 ton/year biodiesel project intended to transform waste oil and fat into high-quality biodiesel through a special technological process, achieving the goal of conservation-oriented development by recycle waste material.

While constantly exploring new energy,SEG has also made efcient use of traditional energy with the help of self-developed packaged technology to produce clean fuels and high value-added products. Now, SEG has the capacity to produce gasoline to meet Euro V emission standard with new catalyst and exclusive process and produce ULSD with RTS technology. In terms of R&D of high value-added products, SEG has made achievements in high-pressure XLPE insulating material technology and packaged technology of gas-phase polythene, and has gained the capacity to produce special high-end cable material and new grade high-end polythene products.

Through combining technology innovation and delegated designs, SEG takes designing and building environment-friendly green factories with low consumption and high efciency as its mission and responsibility. SEG has also attached great importance to environmental conservation, conducting sanitation management through the whole construction. It is dedicated to advocating green design,developing green technology, building green projects and practicing the concept of “green office”; established a green and low-carbon approach to the entire process of planning and design, procurement and construction,completion and post service. SEG has also explored new path for industrial development to encourage the industry to embark on the road to low-carbon and environment-friendly development.

With over 60 years of experience, SEG constantly provides services to clients in the traditional petrochemical industry. Meanwhile,to ft in the national energy strategy and meet the needs of environmental protection, SEG has made eforts to promote a new model coal chemical industry featuring energy conservation and a clean environment, and new energy businesses; popularize its own technology;establish strategic cooperation with wellknown international technology licensors;and provide total solutions in the felds of coal chemical industry, the three waste disposal,LNG, biological energy sources, etc. To actively cooperate with Sinopec Group on the “clear water, blue sky” project and “Energy Efciency Doubling” plan, SEG has sought partners and jointly carried out energy performance and environmental management contracting,so as to offer diagnosis of energy saving to enterprises. Besides, SEG has been active in making preparations for establishing companies of environmental protection and energy conservation, and supported the development of energy conservation and environmental protection industry with its own R&D achievements.

In the construction field, SEG has taken an active part in popularizing new technology and technique of application projects, optimizing construction organization structure, minimizing adverse effects on the environment,developing a special welding technique to ensure zero emissions of noxious gases in the welding process. It has adopted the new technique of water cutting metal to achieve green construction by new technology.

In terms of construction management,SEG has made efforts to effectively prevent and suppress dust at construction sites, control the exhaust emissions of construction vehicle,machine and equipment within the sites, and strictly regulate dust, noise and wastes during the transportation process. To build standard factories for prefabrication, SEG set up noise barriers and other structures to reduce noise and cut down night construction and usage of noisy equipment; and installed dust removal equipment to reduce dust pollution from sandblasting and anti-corrosion. It has also worked to improve the efciency of energy utilization;save energy by formulating energy conservation measures, adopting energy-efficient facilities, improving techniques and using clean and renewable energy sources as much as possible; supervised and enhanced the fair and economical use of materials, recycled remnant material, and cut down the material and resource consumption.

‘Going Out' and ‘Blending In'

Based on a win-win concept, SEG lives up to its responsibilities when implementing overseas projects, actively blending in with local society and dedicated to being a responsible international “corporate citizen”. In Saudi Arabia,SEG fully respected Islamic religious culture and customs and was active in organizing interchange activities with the local employees. In Kazakhstan, SEG recruited local workers for its large refning and petrochemical projects, and held training, discussion, communication, and social gatherings with them.

SEG attaches importance on foreign employees' vocational development, professional training and health and safety, and strives to realize employee localization and train talents for the international market. Some of the total 5,430 foreign employees of the corporation already have become an important part of the talent team for its international operation.

Expand ASEAN Market

On Aug 29, 2014, SEG announced the ofcial signing of the general contract involving design, procurement, construction and trial run for the Refning and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project with PRPC Refinery and Cracker, a subsidiary company of Malaysia National Oil Company, valued at $1.329 billion in total.

The RAPID project is the first general contract of a large project that SEG has won in Malaysia. According to the contract, SEG is supposed to complete a 15 million ton/year atmosphere distillation unit, a 8.8 million ton/ year residue fuel hydro treatment unit, hydrogen collecting and distributing unit and fuel oil system in 52 months.

On June 29, 2015, SEG signed the general contract of polypropylene (PP) project with IRPC, a Thai refinery chemical engineering company, in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the frst general contract project SEG signed in the Tai market.

Te PP project is the frst EPC project SEG gained in refinery chemical engineering in Tailand, valued at $220 million.

By opening up its markets in Malaysia,Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia, SEG has become popular in ASEAN States, enhanced its infuences, and improved its competitiveness in the overseas market.
