Information for Authors
Water Science and Engineering (WSE), founded in 2008, is a scientific and technical periodical published quaterly in English and distributed globally. The journal is sponsored by Hohai University and the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering of China.
Aims and Scope
WSE aims to promote international exchange of academic and technical research in water science and water engineering. It focuses on new concepts, theories, methods, and techniques related to water issues, and publishes the latest research in the fields of water resources, aquatic environment, aquatic ecology, and water engineering, with emphases placed on the innovation and applicability of science and technology in large-scale hydropower project construction, large river and lake regulation, inter-basin water transfer, hydroelectric energy development, ecological restoration, the development of new materials, and sustainable utilization of water resources.
Submission Declaration
Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere, including electronically in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the copyright holder.
Online Submission
Submission to this journal occurs completely online. Use the following guidelines to prepare your article. At the journal homepage http:// www.waterjournal.cn, you will be guided step by step through the creation and uploading of the various files.
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts should be typeset in Word format in one column, according to the paper template available at the journal homepage http://www.waterjournal.cn. They should be organized in the following order: title, author(s), affiliation(s), abstract, keywords, introduction, research content, results, conclusions, acknowledgements, and references, with sections clearly defined and numbered. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, …), 1.2, etc.
The title should be concise and informative, without abbreviations and formulas.
Authors’ affiliations should be listed, along with the full postal addresses of the institutions where the actual work was done, below the author names. Please indicate all affiliations with a superscript number immediately after author’s name and in front of the appropriate address.
A concise and factual abstract of more than 150 words, without diagrams, formulas, or references, is required. The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions. Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract.
Three to eight keywords should be included in the manuscript.
Authors are requested to identify the financial support for their research and/or preparation of their manuscripts, and to provide titles and names of funding sources in a footnote on the first page.
The reference list should consist of all published works referred to in the text. Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). The following reference formats are generally used. Books: author(s) (surname(s) followed by capitalized initial(s) of given name(s), with all authors included), year of publication, name of book, edition (if not the first edition), publishing company, publishing location. Journals: author(s), year of publication, title of paper, abbreviated name of journal, volume number followed by issue number in parentheses, cited pages, doi number. Conference proceedings and symposiums: author(s), year of publication, title of paper, name of symposium/conference, publishing company, publishing location, cited pages, doi number. Dissertations: author, year of publication, thesis title, institution, publishing location.
Figures and tables should have appropriate titles. They should also be numbered consecutively, and placed immediately below their first mention in the text. Tables are required to have a three-line format. Figures should be in TIF, JPG, or BMP format.
Abbreviations that are not standard in the field should be defined at their first mention. Please ensure consistency of abbreviations throughout the article.
