Chinalco Joined Hands with Yunnan to Create World Top-Class Nonferrous Metals Industrial Layout

On April 13, China Copper Co., Ltd, a key platform of the copper business division under Chinalco, was inaugurated in Kunming, Yunnan hereby welcomed the headquarters of the first central enterprise headed by the word “Zhong” (China) in its name to enter the City of Spring.

China Copper Co., Ltd was founded in 2008. Over the past eight years, it has become an ultra large copper industrial group with total asset and operating income of nearly 100 billion yuan. This company owns four domestic and overseas listed company platforms including Yunnan Copper, China Mining International, Yunnan Copper Technology, and Yunnan Copper Australia; in 2015 it also launched China’s biggest copper mine project “Chinalco Peru Toromocho Copper Mine” in overseas countries.

Why China Copper Headquarters is landed in Kunming? Chinalco side said, on the one hand, Chinalco promoted economic construction and development of the western region with real action; on the other hand, it also involves consideration of Chinalco for implementing the state government’s “One Belt One Road” conception, boosting Yunnan to build open portal facing Southwest China and actively docking overseas market.

Chinalco side disclosed that since the first half of 2015, Chinalco held multiple rounds of consultations with Yunnan side, in December, both sides signed agreement for strategic cooperation in Beijing, and reached consensus over joining hands to strengthen and expand and copper, lead zinc and rare & precious metals industry, this time the relocation and landing of China Copper Co., Ltd to Kunming marked the beginning of all-round deepening strategic cooperation by both sides.

According to plan, Chinalco and Yunnan Provincial Government hopes to create world top-class copper, lead, zinc and rare & precious metal industrial pattern, fulfill integration, transition and upgrading of China’s copper industry and Yunnan nonferrous metals industry.
