Economic Cooperation Underscored at G20 Summit and BRICS Leaders’Meeting

CHINESE President Xi Jinping emphasized in his address to the 10th G20 summit held in Antalya， Turkey on November 15-16 that the main task of the Group of Twenty is to jointly promote global economic growth.

Xi said that the Group of Twenty must seek sustainable development and explore new impetus for long-term economic growth. In calling for closer cooperation towards stabilizing growth and providing momentum for long-term development， President Xi has shown the G20 the way towards exercising its leadership by shoring up global growth and generating more concrete beneficial outcomes.

As host of the G20 summit next year， China will shoulder the responsibility of driving global growth by pushing ahead its transition towards sustainable growth driven by innovation and consumption， and advancing opening-up and shared development initiatives in the coming years. China will also strive to forge a new consensus among G20 leaders on building an open world economy to facilitate international trade and investment， and achieve equitable and inclusive development.

At a BRICS leaders meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit， Xi Jinping called on BRICS countries to strengthen confidence in growth and boost coordination within the emerging-market bloc， and so jointly cope with global challenges. He suggested that BRICS members jointly help improve global economic governance by forestalling short-term financial risks within the G20 framework and expanding the representation and voice of developing countries. He also called on BRICS nations to build a four-pronged partnership to safeguard world peace， boost common development， promote diversified civilization， and strengthen global economic governance.

During the meeting， the BRICS leaders pledged to strengthen their strategic partnership and cooperation in the course of carrying out the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development， and to safeguard the interests of the emerging economies and developing countries.

China will host the 2016 G20 summit in the eastern city of Hangzhou on the theme， “Building an innovative， invigorated， interconnected and inclusive world economy.”endprint
