South African President Jacob Zuma Visits China
Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma on December 4, 2014. Xi said that China and South Africa are both large developing countries and emerging markets. The two nations are good friends who understand and support each other. Xi stressed that the Sino-South African relationship is characterized by equality, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development. Xi Jinping also said that both sides should maintain high-level interactions and increase exchanges on legislation, justice, defense, and state governance. China upholds a correct view on justice and will give full consideration to South Africas needs for development in cooperation between the two countries. He proposed the two countries boost cooperation in trade, finance, agriculture and infrastructure to complement each other. Voicing his gratitude for Chinas support, Zuma said that South Africa understands and respects Chinas core interests and major concerns. He hopes to boost the comprehensive strategic partnership and speed up his countrys development. The two leaders witnessed the signing of several deals, including one on cooperation between the two countries over the next five to 10 years.
Li Keqiang Meets with 21st Century Committee for SinoJapanese Friendship
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met on December 4, 2014 with all members of the Fifth 21st Century Committee for SinoJapanese Friendship. Li said that steady development of bilateral relations is important for the peace, stability and prosperity of the two countries as well as the region as a whole. The Chinese government seeks to overcome political barriers and improve the reciprocal relationship as prescribed by the four political documents signed by the two countries. China hopes to increase nongovernmental exchanges in education, culture and youth affairs, in order to strengthen the public opinion foundation of bilateral relations. Chief Japanese member of the committee Taizo Nishimuro said it is willing to continue these efforts by strengthening exchanges at multiple levels. During this session of the 21st Century Committee for Sino-Japanese Friendship, its members conducted candid and in-depth discussions. China and U.S. to Advance Law Enforcement Cooperation
The topic of enhancing law enforcement cooperation between China and the U.S. was discussed at the 12th Meeting of the China-U.S. Joint Liaison Group (JLG) on Law Enforcement Cooperation in Beijing. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing Dan Kritenbrink attended the opening ceremony of the meeting on December 3, 2014.
Liu pointed out that law enforcement cooperation under the JLG mechanism had“contributed to safeguarding normal people-to-people and business exchanges between China and the U.S.” Cooperation in law enforcement was fully recognized by the two countries leaderships when Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama met in Beijing last November. Liu also noted that China was ready to work with the U.S. towards further achievements for a shared future so that the new model of major-country relationship between China and the U.S. would benefit the people of both sides and people across the world.
Mr. Kritenbrink expressed his hopes of further consolidating and developing cooperation in law enforcement between China and the U.S. based on the platform of the JLG. He said, “The JLG plays an important role in promoting a healthy and durable relationship between the two countries.”
Chinese, Brazilian Presidents Exchange Congratulatory Messages on the Launch of the CBERS-4 Satellite
On December 7, 2014 Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff exchanged congratulatory messages on the launch of the CBERS-4 satellite, jointly developed by China and Brazil. In his message, Xi said that the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite(CBERS) Program has set a successful precedent for developing countries to cooperate in space. The successful launch of the CBERS-4 satellite by a Long March-4B rocket was also the 200th Long March rocket launch, demonstrating the latest achievements of scientific and technological cooperation. Rousseff said that the CBERS Program showed vast potential for cooperation between developing countries. The launch of the CBERS-4 satellite strongly promoted development of the Sino-Brazilian comprehensive strategic partnership, she said, adding that Brazil will continue to firmly support the CBERS Program.
