Last November, President Xi Jinping first mentioned the idea of the Chinese Dream on a visit to the “The Road towards Renewal” exhibition at the National Museum of China. Since then, Xi has addressed the concept on several occasions. Xi stressed that the Chinese Dream means the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It embodies achieving prosperity for the country, renewal of the nation and happiness for its citizens. Only when the country is doing well can the nation and people do well.

Xi emphasized that the Chinese Dream in essence embodies the dreams of the people. The Chinese Dream is to provide better education, more stable employment, higher incomes, a greater degree of social security, better medical and health care, improved housing conditions and living environments. The dream is to enable our children to grow up healthy, find good jobs and live better lives. Xi stressed that all Chinese people living in our great country at this exciting time have the opportunity to enjoy a successful life, greater opportunities to realize individual dreams, and the opportunity to grow alongside the country. Xi also emphasized that the Chinese Dream is a dream of peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefits for all. It is connected to the profound dreams of people in other countries. The Chinese Dream will not only benefit the Chinese people, but also people around the world.

In December 2013, 98 experts and scholars from 21 countries gathered in Shanghai for the International Dialogue on the Chinese Dream forum. “I hope, through todays dialogue, more friends across the world will be able to understand the Chinese peoples dreams, how they have chased the Chinese Dream and the profound changes brought about by the Chinese Dream,” declared Cai Mingzhao, Minister of the State Council Information Office and sponsor of the event, at its opening ceremony.

Speakers from overseas focused on the influence of the Chinese Dream on the world and many of them expressed belief that the Chinese Dream is rooted in Chinas time-honored history and rich culture. Most attendees, both Chinese and foreign, agreed that deepening reform is the path to the realization of the Chinese Dream and a Chinese dream featuring peaceful development will promote global prosperity. During the discussion, decisions issued at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee were referenced many times.

“The recently-held Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee presented Chinas developmental direction and reform roadmap – a concrete path and blueprint for the realization of the Chinese Dream led by the Chinese Communist Party and a new page for Chinas reform, ” remarked Zhou Mingwei, President of China International Publishing Group, one organizer of the forum, at the closing ceremony. He believes China is at the dawn of a new era with many new characteristics. China longs to become more familiar with the rest of the world as they in turn become more familiar with China. “Never before have we been so close to the revival of the nation and so confident and capable of making it happen.”
