刘建康

1917.09.01～

鱼类学家、生态学家。江苏吴江人。1938年毕业于苏州东吴大学理学院生物系，获理学学士学位。1947年获加拿大蒙特利尔麦吉尔大学哲学博士学位。中国科学院水生生物研究所研究员。40年代开始鱼类学研究工作，对鳝鱼性别逆转现象进行了详尽研究。1944年发表的《鳝鱼的始原雌雄同体现象》一文引起国际动物学界的关注。1949年后，着重开展鱼类生态学、湖沼学的研究工作，调查、研究、总结了中国传统养鱼的丰富经验。武昌东湖渔业稳产、高产和水体生物生产力的研究，使东湖渔业生产获得高速度发展，从理论与实践上为发展中国淡水渔业及淡水生态学做出了贡献。

1980年当选为中国科学院院士（学部委员）。

Ichthyologist and ecologist. Born in Wujiang, Jiangsu Province. Graduated and received BS from the Department of Biology, College of Science, Soochow University in 1938 and Ph.D. from McGill University, Canada in 1947. Research professor, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Science.

Liu began to study ichthyology in the 1940s. He made an exhaustive study on sex reversal in Monopterus. His paper “Rudimentary Hermaphroditism in the Synbranchoid Eel” published in 1944 attracted close attention from international zoological circles. He has researched mainly on fish ecology and limnology since 1949. He investigated, studied and summarized the plentiful experience of Chinese traditional fish culture. His research on sustainable high fishery yield in Lake Donghu, and the biological productivity of water bodies brought rapid increase in fishery productin. He has made contributions to the development of Chinese fresh-water fishery and freshwater ecology both in theory and practice.

He was elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980.
