It is known around the world that Chinese students get high test scores. In the U.S., the media has concluded that Asian students like those in China perform well in exams because they study under stricter standards, spend more time and effort studying, their curriculum is better devised, their teachers are devoted and greater emphasis is put on science and math.

However, such exam-centric education has come under huge pressure to reform. Looking for inspiration from foreign education systems, every educator from pre-school to elementary and middle school needs to explore teaching methods that allow students to enjoy learning and develop their ability to think innovatively. The reform of Chinese education has a long way to go, but the fi rst steps have already been taken.
