Zhang Linhai— The Leftover Banquet

Born in 1963 in Shexian County, Hebei Province, Zhang Linhai graduated from the printmaking department of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. This exhibition includes 20 of the artists oil paintings created since 2011. Due to a disease, Zhang has been physically disabled since age four, so his work is full of questions and thoughts about destiny as well as his painful and happy life experiences.

Esprit Dior embodies the spirit of visionary designer Christian Dior. More than one hundred dresses epitomizing Diors career are on display. Also, pictures from world famous fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier and works by major contemporary Chinese artists such as Liu Jianhua and Lin Tianmiao complement the gowns by conveying unique individual understandings of Esprit Dior.

Li Chen Major Sculpture Solo Exhibition

Place Vendome is one of the most prosperous squares in Paris, inspiring its nickname, the “Treasure Trove of Paris.” Officials from Paris and the Vendome Committee (Comite Vendome) invited Taiwanese Li Chen, contemporary sculptor of “Spirit of the East,” to present a major outdoor sculpture exhibition. The exhibit includes 12 of Lis most representative works, covering his career from 1998 to 2010. The largest piece in the exhibition reaches nine meters tall and weighs two tons.

Shi Shaoping: The Metamorphosis Series— The Eggs

Born in 1968 in Jiangxi Province, Shi Shaoping began his artistic career in 2006. This exhibition is composed of 3,000 solid porcelain eggs which took him a year to create in Jingdezhen, dubbed “Chinas porcelain capital.”The 48 tons of eggs have already completed an extraordinary journey across some of Chinas most secluded locations including the rugged Beihai coast in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Yardang landform and sand dunes of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province, the Black Gobi in Xinjiang Urgur Autonomous Region, and Gannan grassland. “Every species, even mammals, originates in eggs. The egg is the basic symbol of life,” explains Shi. “Although it seems fragile, it is strong at the core. This is the power of life.”

Interactive Perspectives— Contemporary Art Exhibition across the Taiwan Straits 2013

The exhibition combined the latest works of contemporary artists from Chinas mainland as well as Taiwan, illuminating their creative thoughts about life, tradition and arts. The curator focused on varied responses from artists across the Straits as they faced similar subjects, mediums, and themes. The exhibition included 36 artists – 18 from the mainland and 18 from Taiwan.
