The German city of Kassel is globally famous for Ducumeta, an exhibition which happens every five years. During the 2012 Chinese Culture Year in Germany, works by modern Chinese artists including sculptures and installations were displayed outdoors throughout the city, interacting with the buildings, environment and people. The Zhangzhou exhibition includes 32 large-scale pieces from 29 artists. Some exhibits were shipped directly from Kassel and some were made especially to complement Zhangzhous local environment and culture.

Blue Room – Yang Shaobin Solo Exhibition

Inspired by the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference held in 2009, Yang Shaobin compiled stories from victims of environmental pollution and natural disasters to create the Blue Room series. In his work, the eyes of victims project criticism, forgiveness and accusation, inspiring spectators to ponder the disastrous results of environmental degradation.

Handwritten·State – Zhou Changjiang Solo Exhibition

Now serving as President of the Art School of East China Normal University after becoming a representative figure in Chinese abstract art, Zhou Changjiang created the “complementary concept” of building modern images of ancient Oriental heritage after researching Western modernism. Traditional Chinese calligraphy is abstract in terms of both visual effect and spiritual essence. The work displayed in this exhibition defined Zhous “complementary concept” and illuminated his detachedness and inner peace.
