找到那个独一无二的点

Confucius said，“The virtue embodied in the doctrine of the Mean is of the highest order.”Aristotle said，“Finding the mean is the most human.”

Being raised in the influence of Confucius and immersed in the wisdom of Aristotle this year，I am amazed to see these two philosophers offer the same wisdom about the mean in life. But what does“mean”really mean？

At first，I saw the word“mean”with discontent. I thought finding the mean is to be mediocre， unexceptional and ordinary. Then I realize that it is not simply to find the middle between two opposite ideas，such as idealism and realism，achievement and character，or extrovert and introvert，but something unique that only applies to myself.

I am an introvert，and I admired people who are talkative，because I cannot express my ideas strongly like they do. However，Hyde gives me the opportunity to explore myself internally and externally. Externally，I have participated in seminar over thirty times to talk about my emotions；Internally，I have run hundreds of miles to develop physical and mental strength；I have read and discussed books by Emerson，Aristotle，and Swift with depth and rigor in order to apply their wisdom in life.

I finally have found the mean in between introversion and extroversion. I am now proud of my introverted ability to reflect and to think，but also the extroverted ability I developed at Hyde to speak and to lead. I am now able to think deep，and speak strong. I now have the clear view of what“mean” means to me， and I will carry it through my journey.

孔子曰，“中庸之为德也，其至矣乎！”

亚里士多德说到，“找出事物的平衡点是找出幸福的关键。”

从小在孔子学说下长大的我，今年却也沉浸在了亚里士多德的智慧里。我惊奇地发现，这两位中西方伟大的哲学家同时对中庸之道做出了强调。可何为中庸之道？

起初，我对“中庸”这个词一直抱有一些不满。我认为找寻中庸之道就是变得普通、平凡、平庸。然后我意识到，它不仅仅是找到两个相对事物的中间点，比如说在理想和现实主义中间，成就与个人品德中间，外向和内向中间，而是一个对于我来说独一无二的点。

我很内向，总是钦佩那些健谈的人，因为我不能像他们那样强有力地、轻松地表达我的想法。 然而，海德中学给了我这个机会去由外向内、由内向外地发现我自己。由外，我参加了三十余次的讨论会去探发我自己的情感；由内，我跑了几百英里的旅程去开发我生理以及精神上的力量；我自己阅读并且与他人深度地研讨了艾默生、亚里士多德、斯威夫特的书籍，并且将其中的智慧应用到我自己的人生中。

我终于找到了我自己在内向与外向之间的中庸之道。我现在不止对于我内向、反省、思考的能力感到自豪，而且对我在海德学习到的外向、领导、表达的能力感到骄傲。我现在可以真正做到想得深，说得稳。我现在对中庸之道的含义有了一个清晰的理解，我以后也会将其运用到我人生的旅程中。
