In order to promote the development and innovation of international palaeogeography and related disciplines, and to organize high academic quality papers for theJournal of Palaeogeographyand thus develop it into a prestigious international periodical, and to celebrate the 60thanniversary of the founding of the China University of Petroleum, the 1stInternational Palaeogeography Conference will be held from September 14 to 17, 2013 at the China University of Petroleum(Beijing).

The scientific committee is composed of the members of the Editorial Committee of theJournal of Palaeogeographyand some international and domestic specialists in palaeogeography. The committee is responsible for the acquisition of manuscripts, their review and their publication; the committee will also evaluate the scientific level of the conference and theJournal of Palaeogeography; and discuss the development of international palaeogeography in the future.

8. Invitation and submission of papers
The conference sincerely invites those Earth scientists involved in or with interest in palaeogeography to attend the conference and welcomes them to submit one or more manuscripts.
To guarantee the academic quality of manuscripts which will be presented at the conference, it is required those who wish to present their manuscripts orally at the conference are encouraged to submit a publishable version of their manuscripts in English according to the general regulations concerning the submission of manuscripts to theJournal of Palaeogeographybefore July 31st, 2013. Chinese authors should also submit a Chinese Abstract in addition to the full text in English.
The sooner the manuscripts are submitted, the better. The scientific committee of the conference will send the submitted manuscripts for review and send back the reviewing comments to the authors for their revision as soon as possible.
All the abstracts will be compiled into anAbstracts of the1st International Palaeogeography Conference(both in Chinese and in English) after receiving all the revised full texts of the manuscripts.The accepted manuscripts will be arranged for oral presentation at the conference and the corresponding author will be granted exemption from the conference registration fee.
The accepted manuscripts will be given publication priority in theJournal of Palaeogeography.
9. Awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students
The conference will award the best presentations by young scientists/students, taking into the following considerations:
1) Authors should submit the full texts (in English) of their manuscripts according the above-mentioned requirements,revise their manuscripts according to the reviewing comments and send back their revised manuscripts to the conference on time, and submit 5 copies of the full texts of their final manuscripts before attending the conference;
2) Only the first author of a manuscript can apply this award;
3) The applicant should be less than 40 years old;
4) The authors should present the manuscripts at the conference orally.
Awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students will consist of a certificate, monographs as well as exemption from the post-conference field excursion fee.
The conference sincerely invites specialists of palaeogeography and related disciplines to donate 5-10 copies of monographs as awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students.
Prof. Feng Zengzhao has already decided to donate 5-10 copies of theSedimentology of China(Second Edition)(about 1800 pages), which he himself is the Editor-in-Chief, as the awards for the best presentations by young scientists/students.
10. Oral and poster presentations
Three days conference will be scheduled on 14th, 15thand 17thof September, 2013.
The technical programme includes oral presentations at the plenary and thematic sessions as well as poster presentations. Further details will be provided in the third circular.
The official language at the conference will be English and Chinese.
11. Mid-conference field excursions
The mid-conference field excursion is scheduled for 16thSeptember, 2013. The following four routes are available for selection, all are covered by conference registration fee.
1) Field excursion to the Xishan Mountains, Beijing, examining the Cambrian and Ordovician successions;
2) Field excursion to the Xishan Mountains, Beijing, examining the Proterozoic successions;
3) Field excursion to the Fossil Wood National Park in Yanqing, Beijing and visiting the Great Wall in Badaling area;
4) One-day tour to the Tian'anmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace.
12. Meetings of the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee
The meetings of the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee will be held during the conference to evaluate the scientific level of theJournal of Palaeogeographyand the conference, discuss and determine the date, venue and host institutions of the Second International Palaeogeography Conference, and to discuss the future international development of palaeogeography.
13. Post-conference field excursions
1) Mesoproterozoic of the Jixian section, Jixian County, Tianjin City (18th-20thSeptember, about 3000 yuan)
2) Coastal sediments of Qingdao and dinosaur culture of the Zhucheng area, Shandong Province (18th-21stSeptember,about 3500 yuan)

1) Registration fee (including the conference dinner fee): 1500 yuan or 250 USD
2) Accommodation fee (Cuigong Guest House, China University of Petroleum (Beijing), standard room with two beds): about 300 yuan/day
