Commemoration of 40 Years of Sino-Mexican Diplomatic Ties

MARCH 26 saw the launch ceremony in Mexico City of the photo album Go Forward Hand in Hand – Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Sino-Mexican Diplomatic Ties, published by China International Publishing Group(CIPG). With abundant and vivid photos, the album reflects the friendly exchanges and fruitful cooperation between the two countries over the past 40 years.

Some 150 friendly personages, including those specializing in political, economic and technological fields in Mexico and China, attended the event. Zhou Mingwei, president of CIPG, Zeng Gang, Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, Carlos Jimenez, president of the Asia-Pacific Committee of the Senate of Mexico, and Armando Alvarez, director general of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, spoke at the ceremony.

Zhou Mingwei, president of CIPG, said that after 40 years of development, Sino-Mexican relations have reached a whole new level, adding that expansion of practical and amiable cooperation is not only in the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, but also of great significance for achieving global peace and development. Zhou spoke of his hopes to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples through exchanges and collaboration between media organizations of both nations and celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Zeng Gang, Chinese Ambassador to Mexico, expressed appreciation for the efforts over the years of CIPG and China Today magazine in introducing China to the world, saying that the album was a precious gift. Armando Alvarez, director general of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, praised the album as promoting and deepening the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

CIPG also presented over 400 books to the Jose Vasconcelos Library, the biggest in Mexico and Latin America, as part of the anniversary celebration. They cover such topics as politics, economics and culture, as well as the lives and work of notable personages.Hu Baomin, CIPG representative and president of China Today magazine, said at the ceremony: “We present these books to enrich the collection of those about China in the Jose Vasconcelos Library. We would like to make concrete contributions to the promotion of cultural exchanges between the two countries and bring benefits to Mexican readers, especially the young who are eager to learn about Chinese culture.”

Patricia Hernández, curator of the Jose Vasconcelos Library, expressed thanks to CIPG and praised the efforts of CIPG and China Todays Latin American Branch to promote friendly exchanges between the peoples of the two countries.

During his visit to Mexico, Zhou Mingwei met with several high-profile figures, including Luis Echeverría Alvarez, former president of Mexico, and Eva Hugos, president of Conde Nast in Mexico and Latin America. He also spoke with Chinese media representatives in Mexico and inspected China Todays Latin American Branch in Mexico City.
