Unido, China agree to Strengthen Cooperation

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and China reached an agreement to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including implementing multilateral environmental conventions.

In addition to strengthening cooperation in implementing the Montreal Protocol, which regulates ozone layer-depleting emissions, the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the forthcoming Mercury Convention, the two sides made agreements on promoting climate change mitigation. They also agreed to develop new programs to strengthen South-South and triangular cooperation in environmental protection.

“In recent years, UNIDOs support to China has been overwhelming in the environmental field. This can be repeated in other countries,” said Yumkella. He added, “UNIDO can help diffuse Chinas green solutions in the BRICS countries and other countries of the South, with a focus on clean technology and not just renewable energy.”
