BRICS countries are defender and promoter of the interests of developing countries,

President Hu Jintao said as he outlined his vision of the role the five-nation grouping can play at the global level in a written interview on the eve of the New Delhi summit. He stressed that China has always made collaborations with emerging markets and developing countries, BRICS included, a foreign policy priority, and has firmly supported and actively participated in BRICS cooperation. “Cooperation among BRICS countries is made necessary by the ongoing economic globalization and democratization in international relations. It is consistent with the trend of the times characterized by peace, development and cooperation, and is fully conducive to building a harmonious world of durable peace and common prosperity.”

U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke announced that 46 of the 141 hi-tech items requested by China will be granted approval to enter the Chinese market. He was at a function to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Shanghai Communique. A spokesman from Chinas Foreign Ministry responded that Beijing welcomed this move, as mutual benefit is the essence of Sino-US economic and trade relations. The U.S. government is in the midst of a major reform and simplification process that will enable more hi-tech goods to be exported to China, the ambassador said.“We need additional detail from China on the remaining requested items, so that we can determine whether and under what conditions they can be exported,” Locke said. In May, the U.S.embassy will bring a delegation of U.S. companies to Shanghai to meet with Chinese companies interested in purchasing these hi-tech goods, according to the ambassador.
