Culture News Bring Pleasure to Audience
By Zhang Xiangyu
The Entertainment Channel of Zhejiang TV now features a cultural news program from 6 to 6:30 oclock every evening. The 1-year-old program is called One-Click Joy and it is the provinces one and only television window on live cultural news. It stands out from other news programs partly because it adds a lovely dimension to the provinces ambitious endeavors to build Zhejiang into a powerhouse of cultural undertakings and satisfy peoples cultural needs and wants.
Most journalists of the program are young in their 20s, bringing a touch of youth and energy to television journalism. In 2011, they masterminded a province-wide coverage entitled Coastline of Zhejiang. Dozens of episodes covered a full range of themes. These episodes made the program popular.
A major part of the program covers celebrities in cultural circles. Over the past year, the program has run stories on a galaxy of cultural big names such as Tan Dun, Pan Honghai, Yu Qiuyu, Lai Shengcuan, Qian Wenzhong, Rao Zhongyi, Mao Weitao, Zhao Zhigang, Zhao Yishan, Yi Zhongtian, Zhou Guoping and Xu Jiang, just to name a few. The high-end reports bring Zhejiang people up to date what these heavyweight celebrities have contributed to the prosperity of cultural undertakings across China in recent years. Two of the episodes won excellence awards at a province-wide competition for the best culture-centered documentaries.
If the celebrities are a big part of the program, One-Click Joy interacts actively with the grassroots people. The program organizes cultural events and reports them. On New Years Day 2012, the program invited ten calligraphers to visit a residential community in Hangzhou. The calligraphers wrote 3,000 couplets and other blessing inscriptions for residents. Before the advent of the Year of Dragon, the program partnered with Zhejiang Federation of Trade Unions and invited some new Zhejiang residents to the dinner on the eve of the Spring Festival. In March 2012, the program hosted a dating program at the West Brook, a national wetland park in suburban Hangzhou.
The cultural news program responds to audiences most warm-heartedly. Before Mothers Day in 2012, a migrant worker in Hangzhou called and asked if it was possible to hold a celebration in honor of all the mothers. The program said yes. On the evening of Mothers Day, a party was held, attended by grassroots employees and residents. The televised event received warm response from audience.
Wang Yonglin is a young man who works two jobs to make a living and practices calligraphy in his spare time. The program featured his story. After watching the story on television, Si Shunwei, a calligrapher with Zhejiang Art Museum, called in and offered to give the young calligrapher free lessons in the handwriting art.□
