Landlord Yuan Guozhong, with a sick child to look after, struggles to get by with the meager living he makes on rent. He bought the compound some 20 years ago from Gu Yuezong, a scholar of the long gone Qing Dynasty, who has since been unwilling to move out. Xiao Qishan, a security guard, is constantly scheming to make his neighbors property his, while the two remaining tenants, Tian Cuilan, once a prostitute, and Jin Murong, a former Qing princess, quarrel all day, every day.

Barcelona Ballet presents a bold new take on one of classical ballets most iconic creations, notable not only for its lyrical storyline but also its powerful score composed by Tchaikovsky. This production, created solely in Spain with set and costume designs by British scenographer Benjamin Tyrrell, respects the original choreographic work by Marius Petipá and Lev Ivanov but has been submitted to a rigorous review by ángel Corella to update it for todays audiences. The score has been reduced, and audiovisual elements designed by álvaro Luna have been introduced to subtly enhance the effects of certain scenes.
