ObjectiveTo research the factors that affects the efficacy of 2 826 cases of of trigeminal neuralgia after microvascular decompression during follow-up more than 1 year.MethodsThe patients with trigeminal meuralgia were followed-up for 1-25 years(mean 9.8 years)after microvascular decompression from January 1984 to January 2009.ResultsThe long-term cure rate was 86.8%,markedly effective rate was 4.5%,efficiency was 2.0%,inefficiency was 1.6%.Pain recurrence rate was 5.1%,remaining complication rate was 7.0%,subjective satisfaction equal to or greater than 80%accounted for 85.2%,satisfaction less than 80%accounted for 14.8%.ConclusionThe patients with short course, typical symptoms, the main compression on artery and the implementation of effective decompression, which mostly contributes to a good results after operation. On contrast, the efficacy on those who with the main compression on vein and innominate artery, long course and atypical symptoms is often unsatisfactoy.15 refs.
