With the gradual implementation and promotion of the new coating standard PSPC, IMO has already meant to expand the PSPC application scope from ballast tanks to void tanks and cargo oil tanks. Lately, Maritime Safety Committee MSC87 approved the standard and the draft, which made the situation for domestic ship coating enterprises, which have found PSPC hard to cope with, even more severe. However, in face of the implementation of conventions,Jotun COSCO seems to be easy and relaxed.
Mr. Dong Zhaoming, the President of Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings (Qing dao) Co.,Ltd. told the reporter that Jotun COSCO has always been in the leading place in the industry. This is on one hand the benefit of good technical improvement and storage based on communication with customers, and on the other hand the benefi t of following closely the international standards and forward perspectives. Jotun COSCO has been focusing and making necessary preparations when PSPC was still being discussed, and as early as the end of 2009, Jotun COSCO had become the first coating enterprise that is certifi ed by CCS, and published the fi rst Chinese version of PSPC hand manual. This means that Jotun COSCO has the ability to assist more shipyards and ship owners to build or possess ships that comply with IMO regulations and are more seaworthy.
Jotun COSCO does not stop at being sensitive to conventions, since the implementation date of PSPC is drawing near, Jotun COSCO is actively reminding shipyards to make preparations in advance and to check construction plan in order to avoid delivery failure due to lack of relevant measures and records. By now, nearly 60 of Jotun COSCO’s ships in compliance with PSPC standard have been delivered, another 50 ships are being built in accordance with PSPC. Currently, with the approval of PSPS standard for cargo oil tanks, its implementation is also on the agenda. At present, Jotun COSCO is actively doing preparations, especially the test and certifi cation of the products.
In July, 2011, IMO adopted the international regulation on prevention of marine organism from migrating to alien areas. Before its implantation, Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings Co.,Ltd. has produced anti-fouling paint complying with this regulation, which could effectively prevent marine organisms from sticking to the hull and therefore prevent them from migrating to alien areas. In addition, the international ballast water management and control convention is expected to be implanted in 2013,attention should particularly be given to the influence of ballast water management systems on the anti-corrosion function of ballast tank coating. In order to prepare for the implementation of this convention, the ballast tanks produced by Jotun has passed relevant test. Finally, for the recycling convention which is already in force, the products of Jotun comply with the convention and do not contain any organo-tin compound and heavy metal like Lead, cadmium, and chromium. Nowadays, being the forerunner of conventions has become the secret for the success of Jotun COSCO.
