According to the Hunan Geological and Mining Organization for Nonferrous Metals, Baoshan Lead-zinc Mine, which previously was preparing to declare bankruptcy and close, has made a major breakthrough. It is estimated that deep explorations have uncovered lead-zinc reserves of 1.3 million tons, silver reserves of 1,014 tons, and copper reserves of 200,000 tons.

Since 2006, the Hunan Geological and Mining Organization for Nonferrous Metals have taken over substituting resources exploration projects in several national ‘crisis’ mines. It makes full use of currently available information, human labour, technology and equipment for geological exploration, and actively carries out secondround exploration in the periphery of old mines, helping several of them, including Tin Mine, Shuikou Mountain, Xinaghua Hill and Western Human Gold Mine, to avoid the results of bankruptcy and shutdowns.

To date, the Hunan Geological and Mining Organization for Nonferrous Metals has found a number of mines, including Xianrenyan gold, silver, lead-zinc mines, Hehuaping tin mine,Changchong tin and lead-zinc mine, Chiping lead-zinc mine, Anhua Dashen Mountain tungsten mine, Yongxing Xinsheng copper and tin mines, and the Northern Hunan Huxing Mountain tungsten, beryllium and copper mines.

According to statistics, reserves found by the Hunan Geological and Mining Organization for Nonferrous Metals in recent years include 2.136 million tons of lead-zinc, 200,000 tons of copper, 154,000 tons of tungsten, 115,000 tons of antimony, 328,000 tons of tin, 69.6 tons of gold, 1684.7 tons of silver, 4.348 million tons of iron ore, 1.645 million tons of manganese and 3,032 tons of beryllium.
