China’s Largest Copper Foil Factory Opened

On October 28, civil engineering and steel structure projects by Nanya No. 3 Copper Foil Factory, the largest copper foil factory on the Chinese mainland by Shanghai Baoye Group Corp., Ltd., opened on Changjiang Nan Road in Kunshan’s Economic Development Zone.Covering a floor area of 36,000 sq m, the project is expected to be completed in September 2011.

In recent years, China’s electronic industry,especially the mobile phone sector, has seen rapid growth. Consumption of electrolytic copper foil for different types of batteries has increased by approximately 20% annually, especially the supply of high-end electrolytic copper foil, which has fallen short of demand. In order to meet the demands of the Chinese market, Nanya Copper Foil (Kunshan) Co., Ltd., a core affiliate of Taiwan Formosa Plastics Group China, has increased investment by USD 96 million through the construction of the No. 3 Copper Foil Factory, on the basis of the existing No.1 and No.2 Copper Foil Factories. The company plans to increase the production capacity of special high-performance electrolytic copper foil from 34,200 tons/year to 45,900 tons/per year.
