China Today celebrated the 5th year of publication for its Spanish edition in Mexico on September 25. The reception, presided over by China Today president Gong Xixiang, drew a throng of VIPs from both countries, including Yin Hengmin, Chinese ambassador to Mexico, Fang Zhenghui, deputy president of China International Publishing Group, Armando Alvarez Reina, director general of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Mexican Foreign Ministry, Ismael Sergio Ley Lopez, former Mexican ambassador to China, and senior members of China-Mexico interest groups such as the Chamber of Commerce and Friendship Society.
The Mexico City office of China Today opened in 2004 with in-country journalists, and has since moved the editing, printing and marketing work for its Spanish edition there, in the hope of better meeting the needs of local readers, securing a faster response to the latest events and building a greater presence in Latin American countries.
At the reception Mr. Gong Xixiang extended his thanks to the Mexican government for its support, and to the people who help make the magazine come alive each month. He said that the Spanish edition of China Today has now passed its infancy, and confidently assuming its important role in fostering mutual understanding.
