The 61st Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference was held in Paris from September 3 to 5. A CPAFFC delegation led by its vice president Li Xiaolin attended the conference.
Participating in the conference with the theme of “Reaffirming Human Rights for All: The Universal Declaration at 60” were 1,399 delegates from UN departments and 537 nongovernmental organizations in 74 countries. At the conference, five round-table meetings on the topics of “Upholding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, “Overcoming Discrimination to Realize Human Rights and Dignity for All”, “Human Rights and Human Security”, “Human Rights Education and Learning as a Way of Life” and “Addressing Gross Human Rights Violations: Prevention and Accountability”, as well as break-out sessions and midday workshops were held. The participants discussed the relationship between human security and human rights, justice and protection, education, sustainable development, utilization of water resources, protection of the rights of women, children and the disabled, poverty alleviation, prevention of conflicts, food security and other issues. The conference decided that the next conference will be held in Mexico.
During the conference, Vice President Li Xiaolin hosted a working breakfast, at which she had discussions on a wide range of issues with Jeffery Huffines and other senior officials of the Executive Committee of the Non-Governmental Organization Section of the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. She especially talked about the great changes in the field of human rights in China over the past 30 years since reform and opening up.
